Most library materials can be renewed 3 times, as long as no one has placed a hold against the title.  The renewal period is 3 weeks.

Interlibrary loan items from Marina can be renewed 2 times, but a staff member must perform the renewal for you.  You can call Ask-a-Librarian at 240-777-0001 or ask at any branch.

There are a few categories of material that cannot be renewed:

  • Items for which others have placed hold requests.
  • Items that have already been renewed three times.
  • Express books. These current bestsellers, identified with red B&T spine labels, are not eligible for renewal after the 3-week loan period.
  • Interlibrary loan items received from OCLC are not eligible for renewal.
  • Items borrowed on an Educator account.
  • Kits (Storycare Kits, Peas in a Pod, etc.).

You can renew items by:

  • Bringing them to any MCPL library check-out desk; or
  • By calling 240-777-0007, our always-available automated renewal line. PIN must be six digits or fewer to use telephone renewal; or
  • By logging in to  your account on our catalog.
  • Items borrowed on an Educator account.
