There is no minimum age requirement for library card holders.  Even babies or toddlers can be issued cards, if the parent or guardian wishes.  Some parents think it is a good idea to wait until the child is old enough to understand the obligations of borrowing library materials. 

Please be aware that even a child's library account is protected by Maryland law about the privacy of library records.  You may wish to speak with a circulation staff member about card PIN numbers or about the advantages and disadvantages of Household Cards.
