When I place a hold online on an item that the catalog says is on the shelf, will the library have it ready for me later in the day?
Library staff pull items from the shelves to fill hold requests once a day, usually in the morning. Thus, placing a hold will not make the item available for you right away.
If you need a title immediately, you should call the branch that has it. A staff member will look for the item for you and either place it on the hold shelf at that branch or send it to another branch you choose. Transferring an available item between branches can take 3 to 5 days.
You can check the status of your holds from Your Account with your MCPL library card number and PIN. If the hold title shows "Available," it is waiting for you at your pick-up library.
You can sign up to receive an email when your holds become available at your pick-up branch.
