Yes, we have e-books for your iPad or Android tablet from the Maryland Digital eLibrary / Overdrive.

You have a choice of formats:

  • Read in Browser e-books. See OverDrive's instructions.
  • E-books in the EPUB format (and audiobooks in the MP3 format) to your iPad with the free Overdrive Media Console app for iOS or for Android.
  • Kindle format e-books if you have the Kindle app installed.  All titles available as Kindle books are also available as EPUB books, so there is no advantage to using the Kindle app, unless you prefer it.  Watch a video and read some instructions for using the Kindle app with Overdrive's Kindle books.  (This video was not created by the libraries.)

Please be aware that the Maryland Digital eLibrary holdings work on the one-copy, one-user-at-a-time model.  You may have to place holds on materials.  You will be notified by email when they become available, and you will then have 72 hours from the time-stamp on the email to check them out.

See more about MCPL's downloadables on our E-Library pages.

    Live Chat

Using this service you may be chatting with MCPL librarians or librarians at other libraries. All librarians will assist you and, if needed, refer your question, to MCPL librarians.

For more than a decade, Montgomery County Public Libraries has offered a live, digital chat reference service. Developed by MCPL staff in 2002, with just a chat box on the main webpage, we quickly expanded to include chat reference options that could be accessed across the website and even in the catalog. This year the Maryland AskUsNow! cooperative, of which MCPL is a member, began providing the same type of chat reference service to all its participating members. We are pleased to announce that, by joining forces with the Maryland AskUsNow! cooperative - a network of librarians worldwide - MCPL will continue to support our community with the same quality chat reference service that we have offered for the last 11 years, but it will now be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We look forward to continuing our reference chats!
