How does the catalog search work? I am not retrieving the titles I expect when searching.
The MCPL catalog, implemented in December 2012, uses fuzzy logic searching more than structured searching. It is somewhat forgiving of misspellings and makes suggestions as you type.
You can type in search terms, and from the results list that appears, you can limit the retrievals using the filters on the left. Applied filters appear at the top of that left-hand column, where you can remove them if you like.
If you’re sure of your search terms, you can type your original search with quotation marks: "hilary mantel" or “mantel, hilary” as Author seaches or “gone with the wind” as a title search. Quotation marks force the results to include that phrase. Authors names can be “first name last name” or “last name, first name”. Punctuation is ignored by the search engine.
When you sort results, only the first 300 items of the results list will appear in the sorted list.
