Q

I'm doing genealogical research using HeritageQuest. Why does it list the 1930 census information as partial? When will the 1940 census be included?

Answer

ProQuest, the provider of HeritageQuest Online, verifies every entry when it indexes the census records, which takes a long time.  The rest of the 1930 records should be in the database by mid-2012, and they hope to have the 1940 census records added by the end of 2013.

Find HeritageQuest here.

You can access the 1940 census records on the National Archives site.  The website gives full access to the 1940 census images, in addition to 1940 census maps and descriptions.  At this time, there is no index by name.

You can find out more about the National Archives microfilm collection for the 1930 census at

Rockville Memorial Library has 1930 census microfilm covering Montgomery County only.

The University of Maryland at College Park is a Federal Depository.  The information about their collection and researching census information is available at:

    Live Chat

Using this service you may be chatting with MCPL librarians or librarians at other libraries. All librarians will assist you and, if needed, refer your question, to MCPL librarians.

For more than a decade, Montgomery County Public Libraries has offered a live, digital chat reference service. Developed by MCPL staff in 2002, with just a chat box on the main webpage, we quickly expanded to include chat reference options that could be accessed across the website and even in the catalog. This year the Maryland AskUsNow! cooperative, of which MCPL is a member, began providing the same type of chat reference service to all its participating members. We are pleased to announce that, by joining forces with the Maryland AskUsNow! cooperative - a network of librarians worldwide - MCPL will continue to support our community with the same quality chat reference service that we have offered for the last 11 years, but it will now be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We look forward to continuing our reference chats!
