Answer

To see the books to be discussed at a particular branch, visit the Readers' Cafe.

You'll see the center column's heading labelled Book Discussions and, underneath, a list of our branches.  Each branch name links to its forthcoming discussions with titles specified.

Alternatively, you can go to MCPL's calendar of events and choose Program Type -- Book Discussion.  There you'll get a chronological list of all forthcoming book discussions for the next 6 months or more.

If you're looking for titles for your own book group, MCPL's Readers' Cafe has lots of reading recommendations.  We post a monthly book discussion guide on the tab labelled For Book Groups, and there is an archive of these guides as well.

Other tabs on the Readers' Cafe, such as We Recommend, may also yield interesting titles.

If you're interested in book discussions for children or teens, please use the calendar of events or visit our Kids or Teens pages.

    Live Chat

Using this service you may be chatting with MCPL librarians or librarians at other libraries. All librarians will assist you and, if needed, refer your question, to MCPL librarians.

For more than a decade, Montgomery County Public Libraries has offered a live, digital chat reference service. Developed by MCPL staff in 2002, with just a chat box on the main webpage, we quickly expanded to include chat reference options that could be accessed across the website and even in the catalog. This year the Maryland AskUsNow! cooperative, of which MCPL is a member, began providing the same type of chat reference service to all its participating members. We are pleased to announce that, by joining forces with the Maryland AskUsNow! cooperative - a network of librarians worldwide - MCPL will continue to support our community with the same quality chat reference service that we have offered for the last 11 years, but it will now be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We look forward to continuing our reference chats!
