How old do you have to be to get a library card? Is there a minimum age?
There is no minimum age requirement for library card holders. Even babies or toddlers can be issued cards, if the parent or guardian wishes. Some parents think it is a good idea to wait until the child is old enough to understand the obligations of borrowing library materials.
Please be aware that even a child's library account is protected by Maryland law about the privacy of library records. You may wish to speak with a circulation staff member about card PIN numbers or about the advantages and disadvantages of Household Cards.
