How do I get a list of books or other items I have checked out in the past?

I want to review what I have read so I can add some authors to my personal favorite list. Thanks

Libraries have never wanted to keep track of what people read, and Maryland state law guarantees you a right to privacy of your library record.  The American Library Association and our professional code of ethics state our concern for your privacy:

“We protect each library user's right to privacy and confidentiality with respect to information sought or received and resources consulted, borrowed, acquired or transmitted.”

Thus, we choose to purge our borrowers’ records of previous loans.

That said, the growing “social web” movement is changing the way libraries are approaching this.  Some are giving patrons the choice of “opting into” booklist-sharing, similar to what is done by Librarything and Goodreads

MCPL's current catalog, which became available in mid-December 2012, allows patrons to keep lists of titles.  You can create lists of titles you have read, titles you want tor read, movies you have seen, your favorite books on this or that topic, or just about anything.  It's easy to add titles to lists.  Be sure to name lists you create if you want them saved. The catalog also provides instructions about creating lists.

Finally, if you remember something about a book but can't quite put your finger on the title or the author's name, please ask a librarian.  We can help you hunt it down!

    Live Chat

Using this service you may be chatting with MCPL librarians or librarians at other libraries. All librarians will assist you and, if needed, refer your question, to MCPL librarians.

For more than a decade, Montgomery County Public Libraries has offered a live, digital chat reference service. Developed by MCPL staff in 2002, with just a chat box on the main webpage, we quickly expanded to include chat reference options that could be accessed across the website and even in the catalog. This year the Maryland AskUsNow! cooperative, of which MCPL is a member, began providing the same type of chat reference service to all its participating members. We are pleased to announce that, by joining forces with the Maryland AskUsNow! cooperative - a network of librarians worldwide - MCPL will continue to support our community with the same quality chat reference service that we have offered for the last 11 years, but it will now be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We look forward to continuing our reference chats!
